Anyone know if athletes on scholarship can apply for federal or some other kind of loan? I just bet they can get all the money they need from existing programs. The boosters add temptation and could get you a land rover but an honest football player shouldn't be starving or unable to buy a pizza

The minimum amount that may be given on this grant, is 400 dollars. The maximum amount per student, for the 2009/2010 school year, is 5,350 dollars, with limits subject to change. The average amount of a Pell grant is expected to cover about one half of the costs of attending a facility of higher education. It is also possible to combine a Pell Grant with other forms of financial aid, such as loans, scholarships, or other grants, to cover the full cost of attending school

Stipend would be necessarily for all sports, men and women, including half scholarships, etc.

This would be a slippery slope.
