While we have matchup problems for sure on D, let's not forget TT gave up 52 points at home in getting crushed by A&M, and they lost to CUSA foe Houston. This is a tough game, but it's our best shot since the DP.

The exception is true FR Beau Carpenter, who enrolled at Tech last December and has added 40 pounds. Keown and Olso can play every position on the OL. So overall, we feel good about our OL this season.

June Jones was really impressed with Beau Carpenter coming out of Sulphur Springs.

pretty decent offer list. he committed to tech before a visit (?) -- must have had a family connection or something in that.

I agree. I can't remember the last time we had this good of an offense going into Lubbock. We may have a hard time stopping them, but I think they are going to have a tough time stopping us too. You never know, if we get up on them early, they may have to throw the ball more and abandon running at us the whole game.

Have confidence in the speed of the 3-4 especially at linebacker. Eventhough Tech's going to be huge our D-ends are bigger than recent years and have T. Thompson and Hunt with 4.5 -4.6 game speed. Speed is a killer against a new offense. Let's see what kind of blitz schemes Mason comes up with.

Our O has experience - Except for QB (but McDermott was on the scout team all year) the two deep for every position has game experience. Finally!!!

I would consider QB to have 2 deep experience.

Not that I expect that to be of significance at Tech, unless we are way up.
:D

A victory over Tech on National TV Labor Day weekend will be the perfect way to start the 2010 season!

Who are the 5 DBs?

Moore...Banjo...and three newcomers? Bennie Thomas? Crawford? This is where having no Bell and no McConico hurts.

Maybe Jeremy Gray steps up.

If Moore loses any time to injury...could be in a tough situation

My guess would be Sterling Moore and Richard Crawford starting at cornerback, Chris Banjo and Ryan Smith starting at safety, with Robert Mojica or Randy McKinnon getting the bulk of the time at the nickel back spot (with a lot of rotation — I would expect a lot of DBs will see action against Tech).

Jones always had an eye for talent. Tubs prefers to redshirt Carpenter but Beau enrolled early, added weight and is pushing for playing time at tackle. Good thing too since Tech missed on a few OL recruits last year.

To be fair, Tech faced A&M with a makeshift OL and our 3rd QB due to numerous injuries. Leach lost the UH game for Tech. Our running game was killing UH's defense in the first half. Literally blowing the Coog defense out. But Leach is stubborn about wanting to win with the pass so he abandons the run in the second half, which lets UH back into he game and simultaneously wears out our defenders in that God-forsaken Houston humidity. The final insult cam with <1 minute to play when Leach goes for the TD on 4th and goal instead of taking the easy FG that would have put Tech up by 8. It was Leach's worst coaching job as Tech's HC and the most frustrating game I can recall as a Tech fan.
