Way OT: Could We Go Independent?

I think that a National Following is the most important aspect of going independent. So, no. I don't think we could pull it off.

In this era, it seems like the only schools who can pull off being independent are those schools with large national followings. To be independent means you have to schedule games against teams from all over the country to fill your schedule. Notre Dame doesn't have trouble with scheduling because everyone around the country knows that an ND game will sell out and have national TV exposure. SMU just isn't that kind of school. And unless we win 6 or 7 national championships, I don't see us being that kind of school in the future. There's no shame in that. . .only a very small number of schools can pull it off. I think there are only like 3 or 4 independent FBS schools left.
