Mustang Band: Thumbs Way Up!

Postby Hoofbeat83 » Mon Sep 06, 2010 10:40 am

You guys and gals LOOKED and sounded great. It was really terrific to have you at the game. Same for the clan of blue shirted students sitting apart from the SMU section

Yes it was great to hear the band....hopefully we can get some $ to send them to other road games. I heard only half the band will be able to go to New Orleans and that is all. No Rice, Navy etc....rattle some $ chains folks...

It was hard to see from up in the SMU fan section, but has the band completely eliminated high-step marching?

Drill was roll-step, Diamond M Set and march off the field was high-step.

What is "roll-step"? It isn't that tippy-toe step that ruined high school bands is it?

Seems appropriate to repost this link I found on the Tech board:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GD7fGKfMWrc

The mistake that lead to the chaos in the second song actually takes place at the end of the first song. Whoever shot this video turned off their camera before the first song ended. And so it doesn't show how most of the two most south west lines were on the wrong yard line. The camera starts back up during the second song and you can see several of the boxes bumping into each other. And the box on the 50 yard line is in two distinct halves. The fun starts at about the 1:30 mark.

"Roll step" = glide step....in other words no high knee lift.

As an "old school" guy, all I can say is that although Tech had severe problems with their drill, they went back to to their roots with the Matador March and what made the "GOIN' BAND FROM RAIDER LAND" what it was. Their salute to their legendary band director Dean Killion was admirable.

TRADITION IS WHAT COLLEGE FOOTBALL IS ALL ABOUT.

2:00 to 2:12 - Looks like the freshman plants did their jobs.

Question: 3:40 mark or so - does the TT band spell "Tech" or is it "HGH"? I couldn't tell from the camera angle, and am wondering whether they are endorsing use of PEDs.
