Where's our mascot, Peruna, in this? Peruna is THE mascot. And, we were told that would never change.
So, if we have these new so-called Mustangs -- forced down our throats as they may be -- why can't they find a way to have Peruna involved, too?
Also, who exactly rides these so-called Mustangs? Is there a student group like the handlers for Peruna? If not, are they creating one? Is it members of the equestrian team? We know so little about this whole deal and I think that's why we are slow to embrace this whole "new" mascot thing.
Do these "Mustangs" have names? Where are they kept? Are they the same two animals every week? It's all just so random.
About as random as a coach in Texas wearing a waist-length lei on the sidelines on a 95-degree day. If that what we wants to do, then fine. But, c'mon, that is pretty random.

Easy, easy.... A lot of people like the Mustangs. They aren't there to replace Peruna.

We can debate that at another time. For now, let's focus on beating TCU.

Peruna leads the band to the stadium about 30 minutes before kickoff.

I'll be there to cheer them on and will grab as many people as possible to go down there and help pump up the team.

Why don't they go south down the side where they will have people on the west and east vs only the east? Great change. Always easy to complain.

I don't necessarily dislike the Mustangs. And, what Mrs. Pickens is doing is a very noble. It's especially cool that she asked June Jones to play such a large role in her foundation.
My issue is that the Mustangs have no identity; they were just kind of thrown out there with no real program in place -- and still seemingly no program in place. And the way the Culwell family was blindsided was really disappointing. Water under the bridge now, though.
Like anything else, as they build the program back, everything takes time. It's great to have the Pickens family's support, regardless of how that was accomplished. But, it does seem to me that this whole new mascot/symbol program could have been done -- and still can be done -- a whole lot smoother.
The new Mustang walk, surely, is an attempt to move in that direction, which is great. The marketing effort this week is also a great departure from past years. So, you have to give credit where it's due.
Just would like to see the department do a better job connecting with the people who care about the program most and then expand that to the new fans we should be cultivating as we get better and better on and off the field.
Go Ponies!
