noticed from the article that washington state's martin stadium only has a 35,000 capacity....& they're a pac10 program...hhmmmm.
only Washinton with it's 70k seat stadium draws big crowds in the pacific northwest. Oergon and Oregon State have had some strong teams in recent years but they draw about 40k and their stadiums don't have much more capacity than that as I recall.
navy, oregon upgraded Autzen to 54,000 (from 46,000 I believe) and 30 something luxury boxes. Over the last handful of years they have been selling out, no problem. Why? They present an exciting game and win. Also, they can draw. Remember, they are a large state school. We should only compare SMU to like smaller, private institutions. Believe me, having lived in No Cal, Duck interest runs far and wide. I'd like SMU to have the same.
Go Ponies!
I see today that the "Idaho to WAC" rumor is confirmed, leaving the SunBelt with only 6 teams, although I think FIU and possibly FAU are slated to join in 2005 when they move up to I-A?
Assuming there are UNT people ouit there lurking, maybe one of them can bring those of us who care up to date on the SunBelt's plans? I still think La Tech needs to bite the bullett and return to the SBC. Not sure what that group does with Denver, although I suppose a majority could vote that to remain a member, schools must participate in I-A or I-AA football? (assuming they want to retain WKU) I've agreed all along that the WAC needed to go ahead and invite Idaho.
