Re: closing in on big eastIt's ridiculous that the Big East gets an automatic bid to the BCS. If it's Pitt/WVU/or god forbid Syrcause, it doesn't really matter because the team will get blown out, and it will be ESPN's lowest rated BCS bowl game. Hell, I wouldn't be surprised if some of the other bowls (Peach/Chick-fil-a, Pacific Life) get better ratings. The BE sucks, period.

Re: closing in on big eastThey could easily reform the BCS by ranking the conferences and giving auto-bids to the winner of the top 6 conferences every year.
Big East would tumble in terms of national perception.
Re: closing in on big east
My thoughts exactly. Don't just rank the teams in the BCS but also the conferences. Conferences will have to be ranked in the top 10 to get automatic bids. Add the Cotton Bowl in Jerry World as a fifth BCS bowl. Now all D1 teams have a shot at the National Championship and the BCS bowls. Now you have to keep team rankings and there is also an incentive to build the conferences. Will this create a lot of conference realignment? Possibly, but is it any different than what is happening now? Just send 'da money.
Re: closing in on big eastThat or a sort of Premier League type of thing, where a team like Duke gets dropped by the ACC and the CUSA champion takes their slot for 2 years. Same with the BE, B12, SEC, P10, and B10. That way an Indiana either has to produce on the field, or drop down to the MAC and the MAC champion moves up.
UNC better keep that Ram away from Peruna
