The fact that conferences are actively trying to avoid playing a CUSA team, even the CUSA champion, is a telling sign about what the outside world thinks of this conference and the teams in it. Goodness, the Big East is an embarassment to the BCS establishment and should be sent to AQ time out and they'll easily get a slot over CUSA. Sad that our championship team gets to line up against the #8 team in the SEC. High level of respect there, and we usually can't even beat them.

Always thought that college football should follow the English Premier League, and have teams move up or down based on their on-field success. It really woulddn't change the landscape drastically...but you would have a Boise St. added to the Pac-10 and Wash St. dropped to mountain West. TCU moves up to Big 12, Colorado/Kansas move down.

The Monopoly affects downstream bowls too. Here we have two BSC Conferences conspiring with an independent bowl association to exclude a non-BCS school.

Just as an aside, the SEC is having a crappy year and their apologists are refusing to acknowledge how average that conference is in 2010.

I'd say college football is having an overall down year.

The SEC might have having a down year, but here's a hoping we send a team to the national championship for the 5th straight year.

Yes.

The five teams in the SEC West would likely go 4 - 1 against the top 5 from any other conference.

Florida and Georgia are not bad for a 6 and 7.

Oregon is still the top dog though.

How do you know that would likely happen?

Mostly from Alabama.

And Florida - the Jersey Shore of the SEC.

We know you are a Big 10 guy and therefore a SEC hater. For years, I thought the SEC was over-rated, too. I grew up a SWC guy and then evolved into a Big XII guy. Wife and in-laws are Big 10 (MIch/Mich St/Ohio St) people, so I've followed them as well. Having lived over here in SC for 15 years now, I've come to respect the talent in the SEC. My kids went to Clemson so I follow ACC, too, but I won't brag on them.

You say a "down" year, but from where I sit, it is really more of an incredibly "balanced" year in the SEC. The SEC is getting to look more like the NFL where on "any given Saturday", everybody except Vandy can beat you. Hard to believe Bama has lost twice...but winning on the road in the SEC is a tall task.

Looking forward to watching SC vs FL for the right to play for the SEC crown. Those are two pretty good 4-3 teams. They can play with anyone.

Bowl games should be interesting this year.

Back on topic, though...SEC may not like the idea of playing an opponent from an inferior conference that recruits within the same geographic territory...because the SEC is putting it's 5th-7th best team against our champion, so surely at some point we have to win one of these games?

I don't care what conference we are talking about, but it's absolutely ridiculous that one would have NINE bowl tie-ins. Just further proof that there are way too many bowl games these days.

And as far as the Liberty Bowl goes, what chicken [deleted]. I think that they should lock bowl tie-ins during the season and let all that crap get negotiatied from Jan-Aug.

I think we should hope that one day our conference champion doesn't have to play the EIGHTH best team in the SEC...or at least that when a CUSA school does play them, they can actually win. Sure doesn't speak highly of our conference.

I think the tie-ins shifted in 2006 to CUSA/SEC and CUSA is 0-4. Last CUSA team to win it was Tulsa in 2005 over Fresno State.
