IMHO,
The falloff from last year in terms of inconsistent play, etc., has to do with three things:
1) bye week placement - wish it could have been two games ago...
2) depth - coaches have gotten as much as they could out of those men, but SMU needs more
3) injuries - been beaten to death..see #1...
There is a #4...missing McCann & Sanders...they were clearly awesome...we are seeing just how much so. However, I've wondered about the injury bug and whether having a bye a little more middle of the season would have been better for the guys to get their legs under them again.
Hopefully this team will finish strong, the recruiting class will remain as robust (and maybe pick a couple of extra JUCOs and a couple of additional strong star recruits), and going into the spring, the team will be ready to challenge and control their own destiny next season.
I know that no thought above is new...but I read Coach Jeff's Day 2 comments, and it backed up what I have been wondering....
