Somewhat OT: When debating a topic

Postby CalallenStang » Tue Nov 16, 2010 12:09 am

When debating a topic, please at least give some form of your reasoning for disagreement with another's viewpoint.

Going around and calling other people "losers" and "dunces" without providing your own viewpoint accomplishes nothing. These discussion boards are here for us to discuss things, not call other people names without providing any basis for that whatsoever.

I'm talking to you, Hoofbeat83 and ontheedgeofmyseat.

Man up with your own viewpoints or refrain from posting.

I believe they are the same person. Ontheedgeofmyseat admits he has multiple handles, and that the only reason he posts is to incite arguments. Additionally, he has admitted that he contributes nothing of value to the message board.

I have been here for quite some time, with job moves, out of the country, new computers, etc...my handle has changed here and there...my time here is for pure entertainment, fire in the movie house, pot stirring, watching the mouth foaming and premature ejacks.

Agreed. Don't understand the name calling, hatred, etc. to our fellow SMU supporters. Obviously, we all wouldn't be reading this or posting if we did not want SMU to do well. To say those of us who support SMU with multiple season tickets in different sports, Mustang Club and other facilities donations, actually write the checks to underwrite scholarships for our players, and then want our guys to lose is crazy. To not read all of what is written (beat Marshall, hope we win both to go 7 and 5, etc.) and just look for the negative is not productive.

Also don't think it is productive to not be objective. My post referenced I know our kids our young, and that AT THIS POINT we weren't playing as good as Tulsa in my opinion. I also think a 6-6 team with bad loss in championship game (6-7) and no bowl is worse than 6-6 team with home bowl game and victory. Just my opinion, like I said may not be right. The posts that pointed out our practice time would actually be same if we played in championship game only, and the benefit in playing in one, were good and something I had not considered. More respect for those making those arguments than just name calling fellow ponies.

If some who apparently have enough free time to constantly post on this board, worry about their "post counts", point out errors to others, name call, etc. would devote just a percentage of that time instead to raising money for the Mustang Club, working the Mustang Club drive, getting people into Ford stadium, etc. our athletic dept. would be better off. We all want the ponies to succeed, so our efforts should be focused there. We can disagree, but should be mature about it without name calling.

For the record I love post counts - why? Because this is a way to have fun and a way to communicate with friends that are all over the world. I do work for the Mustang Club in Austin, have season tickets and attend at least 9 games a year. I agree with all comments above

Really.

Do we really need a plea for maturity? This is an Internet message board where grown men (and soccermom and diamond girl) have fake names.

You want to make the world a better place? There are better venues than promoting civility on a frivolous pursuit.
