Bowl Talk

Postby Stallion » Fri Nov 26, 2010 1:27 pm

Looks like Louisville (5-6) will take one of those few remaining bowl spots-they are beating Rutgers late in 3rd Q 34-13. West Virginia leading 6-4 Pitt by 14-7. This gives UCONN (6-4) a shot to be the first non-Top 25 team to ever go to a BCS Bowl. Of course they will probably lose again too.

I believe an unranked Pitt played Utah some time back in a BSC bowl.

Pitt was ranked 19 by the AP and 20 by the Coaches entering the 2005 Fiesta Bowl.

Wikipedia says they were No. 21 pregame. With the loss they finished 8-4 so they may have missed Top 25 at end of season

Saturday, January 1, 2005 - Tostitos Fiesta Bowl: #6 Utah[18] (11-0, MWC champion, Automatic non-AQ) 35, #21 Pittsburgh (8-3, Big East champion) 7

Oh you meant BCS ranking, then yeah Pitt was 21 in the final BCS ranking heading into the game. In the final AP poll they were 25th and in weren't ranked in the final Coaches poll.

I'm just going by whatever Wikipedia had. I didn't see your post before I looked it up

I hope that an unranked Big East team does go to a BCS bowl, especially in view of the carping by OSU and other BCS schools about Boise and TCU. Serves all of them right.

All I know at this moment is we are going to a bowl again! The rebirth continues. Great win to our Ponies.

And Pitt didn't earn any pre BSC bowl ranking.

Yes I'm glad we decided to show up rather than forfeit to get a bowl guarantee

This is what happens when SMU wins. SMU wins on the road in a clutch game and the result is Stallion and I agree.

I am so glad we showed up the last two conference games and won. And the worse we can be is 7-7. And the best we can be is 9-5. What a season this can be.
