Who's going bowling?

Postby SmooPower » Mon Nov 22, 2010 4:49 pm

This is kind of an offshoot of the "6-7" talk, which will be moot after we beat East Carolina on Friday. I decided to take a look at which teams have a chance to become bowl eligible using my website that I finally updated after two months.

http://www.glass4.com/bowl/

Right now there are 64 teams that have qualified for a bowl game, with another 20 that still have a shot (the 21st, Arizona State, is currently 4-6 but has two FCS wins and can only finish with 5 wins over FBS opponents).

BIG EAST

Cincinnati (4-6): at Connecticut (6-4) (L), Pittsburgh (6-4) OUT
Louisville (5-6): at Rutgers (4-6) (W) IN
Rutgers (4-6): Louisville (5-6) (L), at West Virginia (7-3) OUT

Minimum: 0
Maximum: 2
Prediction: 1

BIG XII

Colorado (5-6): at Nebraska (9-2) (L) OUT
Texas (5-6): Texas A&M (8-3) (L) OUT

Minimum: 0
Maximum: 2
Prediction: 0

CONFERENCE USA

Houston (5-6): at Texas Tech (6-5) (L) OUT

Minimum: 0
Maximum: 1

MID AMERICAN

W. Michigan (5-6): at Bowling Green (2-9) (W) IN

Minimum: 0
Maximum: 1

PAC 10

California (5-6): Washington (4-6) (L) OUT
Oregon St. (5-5): at Stanford (10-1) (L), Oregon (10-0) OUT
UCLA (4-6): at Arizona State (4-6) (L), USC (7-4) OUT
Washington (4-6): at California (5-6) (W), at Washington State (2-9)

Minimum: 0
Maximum: 3
Prediction: 1

SEC

Georgia (5-6): Georgia Tech (6-5) (W) IN
Tennessee (5-6): Kentucky (6-5) (W) IN

Minimum: 0
Maximum: 2

SUN BELT

Florida Atlantic (4-6): at Middle Tennessee (4-6) (L), Troy (5-5) OUT
Florida Intl. (5-5): Arkansas State (4-7) (W), Middle Tennessee (4-6) IN
LA Monroe (5-6): Louisiana-Lafayette (2-9) (L) OUT
Middle Tenn. St. (4-6): Florida Atlantic (4-6) (W), at Florida Intl. (5-5)
Troy (5-5): Western Kentucky (2-9) (W), at Florida Atlantic (4-6) IN

Minimum: 0
Maximum: 4
Prediction: 3

WAC

Idaho (5-6): at Fresno State (6-4) (L), San Jose State (1-10) OUT
Louisiana Tech (4-6): at San Jose State (1-10) (W), Nevada (10-1)

Minimum: 0
Maximum: 2

By my awesome predictions, I count 7 teams for the remaining 6 spots although technically up to 17 teams could still be bowl eligible. Let me know if I screwed up anywhere.

HILARIOUS. G. Gilbert will not be the starter next year. Maybe UT will find a running game for the first time since Ricky Williams.

It looks to me like the max for the Sun Belt is 4 due to teams that knock one another out.

So what do you conclude from this?

I'm bored so I went through and updated this. Looks like 6 teams became bowl eligible today (with Idaho/Fresno St still in progress) which would bring the total to exactly 70. Still a few teams that could become bowl eligible:

Washington (at Washington St) - Probable
Middle Tenn. St. (at Florida Intl.) - Who Knows
Louisiana Tech (Nevada) - Doubtful

The program with the most money, best recruits, best facilities, and the most arrogant jackazz fans, will be sitting at home with a losing record during the holidays. Mabey coaching does matter?  8) :P :) :D
