Early Challenge in Trenches

Postby Stallion » Sat Jul 17, 2004 1:23 pm

15 out of the 17 offensive linemen(including TEs) on our first 3 opponents-TT, TCU and OSU-are returning starters off bowl caliber teams. Eleven of those 15 are Seniors. We should find out pretty early if Bennett can establish a more effective aggressive defense. We start out against Tech's offensive line which completely dominated SMU last year and returns every single starter.

Stallion's right - Tech's offensive line not only is experienced, but pretty damn big, too. The DLs had better be ready to work overtime in the late-summer heat against those boys. We know Allan Adami will be going 100 MPH on every play. But we need his linemates to do the same. Maybe the quickness of Adami and the DEs, as well as the youth of the DTs, can wear down the Tech OL .... a little.

Linemen, if you're reading this: show up in fantastic condition in August!

Over matched for the sake of attendance

In the old days weak teams like SMU played top teams for the sake of a payoff. Now we do it to meet attednance requiremetns. Either way the team gets beat and never has a chance to rebuild until someone schedules softer opponents. We'll be 0-3 before we know it, and the trick will be to stop the slide. It's going to be another long year isn't it.

It will be a long year, but an encouraging -- and I think exciting -- year. The opening schedule is rough, to say the least, but by all accounts, the players are still really tight, and still buying into the program, which is vital. And I'm not sure we can't pull off a shocker early on -- not OSU, but i think there's a chance to shock either Tech or TCU. I'm not going to bet the mortgage on it, but I think we'll be better, and I wasn't sold on the little froggies last year. And Tech lost a lot. We'll see. I'd say I expect us to lose the first 3, but I think it's far from a guarantee.
