ESPN blog: Padron talks about season

By Richard DurrettUNIVERSITY PARK, Texas -- SMU sophomore quarterback Kyle Padron knows he hasn't had the kind of steady, consistent season he wanted.

You wouldn't necessarily know that by the numbers. He is 261-for-440 passing for 3,306 yards and 28 touchdowns. He has 10 interceptions. Padron has four TDs rushing and 251 net yards on the ground.

But he's had games where he was out of sync early or couldn't make the key plays. And he's had some where his big-play ability was the difference.

"It's been up and down," said Padron, who became the starter during his freshman season. "It started a little slow and there has been some games where I'd like some throws back. Overall, we're 7-5 and we are trying to win a conference championship and that's where we want to be. I haven't reached my personal goals yet, but as long as we win a conference championship, it won't matter."

Padron said during the East Carolina game, an overtime win for SMU on the road, that he was too pumped up early and made some throws he shouldn't have.

"I felt like I settled down the second half and made some big throws," Padron said. "My receivers helped me out and we came out on top."

Pardon said his left ankle, which he injured during the third quarter of the game, has made progress this week and he should be fine for Saturday's game.

Padron said he doesn't see a huge difference between this year's team as opposed to last year except for one key thing.

"Last year we weren't really sure what to expect," Padron said. "This year we expect to win and last year going in we thought, 'Maybe this year will be different.' This year we expect to win every single game. We didn't meet that goal. But a winning culture is starting to build here."
