Army vs. Navy

Postby mustang1108 » Sat Dec 04, 2010 5:45 pm

I was trying to find the army/navy game on TV, but then saw that it is being played next weekend. I'm pretty sure that the game used to be played on championship Saturday? Does anyone know why this game is being played next weekend this year? I guess its ok because both teams have accepted bowl invitations, but what would have been the case if one of the teams was on the bubble of being bowl eligible?

It moved last year, so that it gets the national attention it deserves.

As for bowls, this year we had to get 6 wins before A-N to trigger the conditional tie-in to AF Bowl.

Our announced future tie-ins (2011: Kraft, 2012: Military, 2013: Poinsettia) are not conditional and not dependent on getting 6 wins before A-N (neither are Navy's (2010: Poinsettia, 2011: Military, 2012: Kraft, 2013: Armed Forces)..

Oh, and it was never played on "Championship Saturday", but some conference championship games WERE played on Army-Navy Game Day. :)

Whatever bowl they are tied into or have a deal with has to wait until the outcome of the game. Like last year I recall Army had a tie-in with the Eagle Bank bowl but had to beat Navy (they didn't) and UCLA got the bid instead. Not a huge deal.
