SMU WHIP HOGS - POLYESTER BOWL

Postby Glenn Sosbee » Sat Dec 11, 2010 10:16 pm

I'm watching the ESPN special tonight (like all other PONYFANS). I just saw the sign I personally hand painted and brought to Fayetteville Ark. that day and hung on the sideline. Taking it back home with me never really crossed my mind. I sure wish I still had that thing now.

Me and my Mustang buddy Dean rode on the team bus to and from that game and we always talk about how we were run over by Eric Dickerson in the back of the end-zone after another long TD run. We actually were able to make it on the field ( a lot less security back then). I'll never forget how cool that road trip was.

Thank you Thad.

Someone recently asked who Eric Ferguson was-he was the All-SWC DE who ran the last clip in for a TD in those SMU/Arkansas highlites clinching the SWC

One had to have a pair of eyes in the back of your head to watch out for flying whiskey bottles.

BRING BACK THE GLORY DAYS OF SMU FOOTBALL!!!

For some strange reason, one of the few universities that REFUSE to use their school colors: Harvard Crimson & Yale Blue.

Fayetteville is a great place to party now. The Biker, Blues and Barbeque event in october draws several hundred thousand bikers. LOTS of music venues!

I was at the Polyester Bowl also. I treasure a Photo I took on the field after the game with Craig James standing next to my then proud 10 year old son wearing his SMU jacket and hat. Hmmm...good avatar I think.

Some of my Arkansas fan/friends thought we "poured it on" by having ED score that last TD to end the game.
Long live Inez Perez!

Never really got the Line out right did they? It was the Polyester Bowl because Its the Next Best Thing to Cotton. Oh you probably don't get it still. "Polyester-Its the Next Best Thing to Cotton" was a well known marketing slogan in the Day.

I went to that game as well. I sat on the 50 yard line on the press box side with wife and members of her Arkansan family. Her dad was a longtime season tickets hog fan. I was the only Mustang on that side of the stadium. It was so much fun to celebratea great SMU win. The hog fans were in total shock. We kicked their tails Big Time!

It was actually a pretty close game until Eric Ferguson intercepted that pass for a Pick 6. But I remember we completely shut them down on Defense

Sam Walton was seated next to us at the Polyester game. He left early with his group when there was no doubt that SMU was going to win. He was pissed. Great memory!
