Although the travel to Colorado is worse than the current CUSA West in-state travel, the Colorado trip plus one to Vegas/California/Hawaii beats the hell out of going to Connecticut. It's a potential selling point for recruits and you may be able to pick up a recruit or two in those destinations.
I actually agree. We used this same selling point to great affect against our Big 12 "friends". Just like the mortgage biz, coaches have to sell what they have. Coaching will make a liar out of you. Cant wait to hear the neg recruiting angles from our recruits now that the "BCS Thing" is off the table. Sorry Sammy 11 but Briles is the worst at the neg angles. BTW, TCU has no position regarding additional Texas teams to the BE. SMU controls their own destiny if you can get your stadium filled consistently. UH a distant 2nd. Baseball helps them a bit but it would be cool to capture the metroplex. Then we wouldnt have to waste a OOC game on each other.

as we improve, you won't be viewing that OOC game as a waste, but rather an asset. You'll need that to bolster SOS when there's an undefeated SEC & Big10 team if you guys run the table through conference play.
this is assuming you win, lose, and it won't matter weather it's in conference or not. a 1 loss team from the Big East may go to a BCS game, but won't be playing for the MNC
Ok this is getting ridiculous...I agree with Dutch on THIS ONE POST by him totally

WVU was in the game until Pitt handed them their 2nd loss a couple years ago. They went on to mutilate mighty OU. BTW, I meant the "waste" in both directions. I would rather it be a Conference game which would create even more heat. And that would be your angle into the BE. All conferences try to fabricate a "rivalry game" for the last week. Getting assigned a rival happens and usually isnt good. I would rather have OOC games against teams outside the old SWC. However, I would not want to end the SMU game. The atmosphere this year was too much fun. We drew 46k+ for Baylor (capacity 44k) and it just wasnt the same. Just not quite a rivalry. Anyway, my vote is for SMU. A natural fit and plenty of hate even though you are inferior in every way. Then we could see if the Big 12 truly captures the DFW market already as they claim. They havent had to compete against high quality DFW Schools since the 80s. Add BCS to those two schools and I think it will get interesting.

2 things. 1- My comments were unrelated to recruiting, I was referring to cash SMU/UH has to spend on travel. 2- Briles may do that but Patterson isn't spotless. Rumor has it (which 2nd hand info is all either of us have to go on) is he's been touting the TCU will replace baylor in the big 12 thing for years.

If CFU or ECU bolt then we need to look at our options including the MWC. From a selfish point of view I would love to have SMU join the MWC just so I could see the Ponies in Vegas or California. But if CFU and ECU stay then we work to dominate CUSA and win the OOC games. When that happens then we can talk about a move to a BCS league - long way to go.

i like how just 2 short years ago, we would be lumped in to the "awful" teams a la tulane, rice, etc. who need to go join an even crappier conference. a lot has changed in 2 years, and a lot more could change 2 years from now. we need to do what TCU did - keep winning. dominating your own conference gives you good records at the end of the year. good records at the end of the year gets you votes in the polls. votes turn into breaking into the rankings and staying there year after year. eventually, you do what tcu and boise have done and you get recognized as a "bcs buster". who knows- you might even make it to that level.
good things happen when you finish the season with good records and make it into the rankings year after year after year. we are just starting the process. we haven't sniffed the top 25 polls yet, but we are on the right track. let's sit back and watch. no need to worry about our conference situation right now unless one of the big boys comes calling.

very true, no time to worry about what we can't control. Win, win, win and fans show up more and more.

Pony Excess has given SMU National Attention which is really needed.
I was talking to a young woman this afternoon here in the OC and describing my upcoming trip to Dallas to see my children and my first grandchild.
In passing I mentioned that HB Pony Daughter is attending SMU.
She got all excited and started telling me about the best Football Movie she had just seen all about SMU.
She told me that she had never heard of SMU before but she became a PonyFan after watching "Pony Excess".
Thad's objective of bringing SMU back into National Attention is working.
We need to just stick in C-USA and WIN, and keep WINNING and when the major shakeups occur we shall find ourselves in the discussion.

I marvel at the effectiveness of Thad's Trojan Horse...and I say that in a very, very positive manner. I hope he gets the last laugh, if there's a chuckle to be had, that it was his work that a number of individuals didn't want to "re-hash" that is the catalyst for SMU parlaying on-field success in to national prominence and a better conference.
