New uniforms

Never change the white helmet with the red mustang. I was watching Pony Excess (again) at my brother's house the other night. 5-yr old nephew came in the room, saw the classic helmet on the TV, pointed and screamed, "SMU! Mustangs! Ponies!!" My brother, who did not go to SMU, commented that right there ought to be a case study in branding and logo design. I repeat, never change the white helmet with the red mustang.

I never liked the red helmets with the White horse because on a non-high def TV they were hard to distinguish from Arkansas. And I don't want anyone to confuse us with the Hogs. This was especially problematic during Senior and Hula Bowl games. I didn't like the blue helmets with the red mustang because the mustang was invisible. I have always thought the white helmets with the red pony were the best we ever had and should be kept. Please no Dave Smith silver helmets even with a horse on the side. We are not Ohio State. And for the jerseys, royal blue were the best. I remember Ron Meyer describing the uniforms to me when I interviewed him when he came to campus. He said, "I'm changin the jerseys back to blue, but those silver pants and silver helmets have to go. We're SMU, not Ohio State. Our colors are red and blue! So we'll have white helmets with a red mustang, white pants and a blue jersey."

It wouldn't hurt if Ron Meyer took Don Ho shopping either. Its hilarious that the guy who talks about the importance of setting his own mean, tough image for the Football team walks around like a beach bum or a salesman in the J.C. Penny's Men Department

I prefer different shade of blue....
I like the stripes...
I dont like the stripes...
I prefer the white...
I like the black...
I hate the black....
blah blah blah
maybe we should wear a new uni for every game to make everybody happy!
of course that would also mean someone is furious at every game!
so what else is new?

Isn't that what we are doing by adding black, just trying to make someone who doesn't yet know anything about SMU happy?
