On the East side from about the 40 yard line north towards the bottom of the horseshoe was solid SMU fans, both lower and upper sections. What surprised me was that the west stands as seen from the east stands appeared to be a good 65 to 75 percent red and blue. I knew we had sold the 10,000 allotted seats located mostly on the east side and thought the west side would probably be pretty much a random crowd wanting to watch a bowl game. The SMU turnout for this game on a Thursday, no less, was very encouraging for future attendance.
SMU's first president, Robert S. Hyer, selected Harvard Crimson and Yale Blue as SMU's colors to symbolize SMU's high academic standards. We are one of the few Universities to have school colors with real meaning...and we just blow them off.
