The question with Tech is do you blitz the new QB with everything but the kitchen sink right off the bat, (probably allowing a big play or two) or do you play safe, and wait for him to find his groove - getting a big play or two anyway?.
Although I was kidding about the quick kick, it is the most underutilized play in football. It is only effective though if you can play defense. I can't see the practices so I would look to Bennett to start with whatever we do best. I imagine that will be a first down controlled pass from a rollout to give Phillips a run-pass option and then back to off tackle. This team needs to build confidence and nothing does it like a little ball control on the first series. The more interesting series may be our first on defense. We'll see then if Bennett thinks we can play heads up or need stunts to be successful.
Re:
I like the blitz approach. Their offensive line is big, but are they quick? If we send both DEs and OLBs, and an occasional corner or safety, maybe we can get in their QB's head, so he's not sure where we're coming from. Then again, if we can get him to cough up a couple of errant passes.... As for the offensive strategy, here's the first play (I'm sure Coach Burns will consult me on this): two backs in the game with a tight end and two receivers. Phillips takes the snap and hands off to Foy Munlin, heading right behind Derron Brown. Munlin hands off to Jay'Mond Cleveland coming back on a reverse. Cleveland then pitches to Devin Lowery coming back to the right on a double-reverse, where he has Munlin and Brown lined up as blockers. At this point, Lowery has three options: if the Tech defense has ignored Phillips as he drifts downfield, Lowery can throw it to Phillips. Or he can stop and fire it back across the field to Cleveland. Or he can follow Brown and Munlin upfield - touchdown, SMU! Hard to believe nobody pays me to coach, isn't it?

Good call - I was thinking the same thing!
