I went to Mustang Corral. It sucked so bad I almost wanted to transfer afterwards.

...sounds like Band Camp!----"and there was this one time"-at Mustang Corral..... Shoot I'd promise to go to every FB and BB game for 4 years just to get out of going to Mustang Corral. Now that's an idea.

Stallion, its worse than band camp. Its sitting in a circle and playing icebreaker games for three days. Its writing letters to yourself that they'll give you a year later. I think there was a talent show in there somewhere............

ROTFLMAO

"Hope is on the Way" 1965-

The Aggies send their kids off campus for their rather well-known Fish Camp and they seem to have no problems getting them to be spirited despite their lack of proximity to campus.

Actually, I think the benefit of Mustang Corral was kind of a group suffering, which did lead to a head start in getting to know some people. And there was one couple who got caught making out naked in some poison ivy and they were shamed for the rest of camp. The guy's getting married in a month...I'll have to remind him about this incident during the bachelor party.

At least at band camp there is the possibility of flute tricks.

What happened to AAARO or whatever it was called. I think that was name of the "orientation" for freshmen back in the dark ages. I remember it fondly as my first viewing of the classic "Dr. Strangelove."

I remember summer orientation when I went there. But it was on campus. Met a real cute girl who went out with me all of one time once school started. But at least you do get to know a person or two before school starts. Not a bad idea to try and instill any kind of spirit in the student body. Any idea is worth a try. I remember going to SA camp out in Waco at Lake Whitney. Froze my butt off in early April. At least in August there's a chance of staying warm.

I think the aggies probably do the freshman "Fish Camps" better than anyone and I may be wrong, but I believe it is all done off campus.

Hey, don't knock band camp, lol. Here at smoo, it's pretty intense. It's like drinking from a firehose, there's so much tradition and history forced down your throat. After band camp, our freshmen know all about the history of SMU and the band, can sing all the songs (with harmonies), and seem to actually take pride in representing SMU. If Corral was more like our band camp, I don't think it'd hurt.

I don't think Corral is inherently bad, its a good chance for kids to get to know each other and make friends before school starts. From what diamondm says, it sounds like things are getting better too, but i do remember little things that irked me, like 3 or 4 years ago they taught them Pony Battle Cry, ending with "Go Stangs Go" instead of "Fight Fight Fight." Petty, i know, but it IS our fight song, and they might as well learn the right words. On a lighter note, Ryan Trimble is the head cheerleader, and he's a good guy, REALLY loves SMU and I believe he goes to corral.

The biggest problem with corral i think is the upperclassmen often leading the thing never really learned the stuff themselves and are kinda going though it with the freshmen. I know a guy that was like the HEAD student in charge of something to do with corral or WOW (week of welcome) a couple years ago, and I bet you 20 bucks he couldnt name a single football or bball player or coach. He'd ask me stuff like 'is our basketball team any good?' at the end of February, and he'd skip SMU games but watch the ESPN highlights to see what happened to UT. I think it'd be good to get some band people in on corral, I was interested in being a leader last year, but every year it's right in the middle of band camp.
