Kudos to Copeland

Postby WildHorse » Wed Dec 05, 2001 3:53 pm

We all need to congratulate Copeland on a great hire. He resisted the urge bow to the sentimental vote and hire Charlie Waters and went with the man who was the best choice all along. Waters might have done a good job, but that's not the point. Bennett gives us a chance to compete immediately for recruits and on the field. He's a Texas guy with connections all over the state. He will do a fantastic job at SMU, and Copeland is to be commended for making the right hire.

Well said. Cope gets picked on when things don't always go the way we'd like, but he's considered one of the best AD's in the NATION. By people who know a lot more than the casual fans on a message board. Cope's name has come up for numerous openings - bigger than the N.C. State deal he turned down a few years ago - because he's a damn good AD. Support this man, by going to games and by contributing to the athletic department. He can get an awful lot done. (Look where SMU was when he started - losing in an empty Cotton Bowl that had zero SMU identity, threatening to lose Schellas Hyndman, looking for a replacement for the pathetic John Shumate, etc.)

Cope's done a great job, and deserves our applause for hiring Bennett

I still wish we'd interviewed Doug Williams or Rickey Bustle.

But I like the Bennett hire.

This hiring should get an extension for Copeland. Getting Bennett is his biggest accomplishment outside of getting Ford Stadium built.

I thought we should have gone with an offensive sided coach, but someone said that a great defensive coach know what type of offense to run.
