That same section in the paper also says that Muse could earn one of the starting DE spots. Any idea which one? I hear Justin Rogers is kicking tail in practice, so could that mean Melvin Williams becomes the backup? Personally, I'd like to see Melvin and Justin start, even if Muse comes off the bench and plays a lot. (Sure am eager to see him on the field, though!)

If Muse beats williams out for a starting spot, that would be a significant upgrade to our defensive line. Williams is a decent player, but doesn't "make plays". This really would be a positive development.

Not so fast, my friend! (Sorry - hadn't fired off one of those in a while.)

In terms of pure speed, Muse would be an upgrade over either Williams or Rogers. I've also heard Rogers has had a great preseason, and appears ready to bust out with a big year. But I also really like Williams. He got to SMU at what .... 205? He's now pushing 250, and while he won't throw around those 300-plus OTs, he has a non-stop motor.

If Muse earns the starting spot, fine -- throw him in there. But if he's relying solely on speed right now and hasn't yet learned the position's nuances, I think we need to rotate him in, at least for the time being.

If his speed allows more pressure on the QB - and sacks - then throw him in there. An improved pass rush would mean more hurried throws and more interceptions or QB fumbles.
