2011 Signing Class? Oversigned?

OK. Assuming the whole class stays solid, and I know that is a big assumption, who gets the gray shirts? We have 29 kids. I will put the 2 that have already signed backward into the 2010 class. That is best case scenario. So we still have 27 with maximum allowed of 25. Any thoughts or knowledge as to who gets the short straws? Of course grades or defections may make this moot but I would be interested in some thoughts.

I would have to agree. Some of those recruited need to put on some serious LB's before they hit the campus.

I really don't think this is going to be a problem based on the number of non-qualifiers we've signed in recent years. We can take 25(August 2011) and 2 already enrolled(January 2011) so we are talking about 1 kid.

I am just wondering who and how many it may be. I have my thoughts but I guess it would be unfair to the kids to speculate without any facts.

Many years ago TAMU had their 12th man team made of of non-scholarship kids. This team handled all kick offs and really added interest to the program and gave a large number of extra kids the opportunity to play. I am not sure of the results of this program; however, cannot remember any negatives. Maybe, a school like SMU should start a similar program to generate student body and national interest.

I am not so sure how that would work today but I do know that more recently A&M had 1 kid not on scholarship on the kickoff coverage team. He would wear #12 and the stadium would go nuts for him. I seem to think it was a rotating honor but it could have been the same kid each week.

Since this would be something June would have to implement, and since these walkons would likely be undersized, I suggest having the 10 members of the kickoff team who are non-scholarship be called the "Mustang Menehune"
