The Cowboys released nickel cornerback & former SMU Mustang Donald Mitchell and nine other players on Tuesday. (Here's hoping he'll get picked up by another pro team...maybe Houston?...keep him in the Lone Star State!)
http://sports.yahoo.com/nfl/players/4767/
Mitchell spent last season on the injured reserve list with a sprained left ankle after four seasons in Tennessee and coach Bill Parcells said he was rooting for him to make the team.
Linebacker Markus Steele, running back Aveion Cason, receiver Cedric James, defensive end Johnathan Taylor, defensive tackles Shaun Smith and Dave Volk, punter Ryan Flinn and defensive end Darrell Lee were the others released.
Center Gennaro DiNapoli was put on the reserve/physically unable to perform list, meaning he can't play before Oct. 24 at Green Bay.

He needs to catch on with the Rams who already have Garrett and Aldridge. Travis Fisher went down with an arm injury and will miss most of the season so there is an opening at SMU - St. Louis.

Hope Mitchell catches on elsewhere. He's too good to not play. He was a stud with the Titans.
Also, Kris Briggs was cut by the Packers and Sterling Harris was cut by the Browns.
On the plus side, TCU-ex Cedric James also was cut by Dallas. ( )

That's a bad way to start the morning, reading this. Good luck to all finding new jobs.
So this means we're now represented by Rhinehart, Garrett, Aldridge and McCown, right? Anyone else I'm forgetting? I guess this now means I'm a St. Louis/Arizona fan (and considering the history of the Cardinals franchise, there aren't many who can say that!)

McCown doesn't represent SMU.

Yeah, actually McCown is kind of a negative reflection on SMU.
Great player though, and tough. What were we thinking.
Go Ponies!! Beat whoever it is we are playing!! @PonyGrad

Also, Rutledge got let go by the Titans. Best of luck to you, Jonas.
"Titans waive eight players; roster reduced to 72
NASHVILLE, TN, Aug. 31, 2004 - The Tennessee Titans announced today that they have released the following players: G Dennis Alexander, P Eric Johnson, S Brandon Lynch, RB Ronald McClendon, DT Aaron McConnell, WR Mickey Peters, C Hugh Reilly and CB Jonas Rutledge. The Titans also placed DE Bo Schobel and CB Tony Beckham on the physically unable to perform (PUP) list.
The moves leave the Titans’ active roster at 72 players, including seven roster exemptions for players that participated in NFL Europe.
Players on the PUP list are ineligible to play in the first six games of the season, but can be activated to play anytime in the following 21 days. Also, in that 21-day period, players on the PUP list can return to practice with teammates.
All NFL clubs must reduce their rosters to a maximum of 53 by 3 p.m. (CDT) on Sunday, Sept. 5 with an eight-man practice squad to be named later that week."

Damn! I'm sorry to see Jonas get the pink slip, too. I was really hoping he could catch on there. Oh well, perhaps another team will snatch him up, or maybe Tennessee will bring him back for the practice squad (although I think the players who end up on the practice squad usually are released in the last rounds of cuts.)
Only good thing about this is that Donald Mitchell pocketed a bunch of Jethro Jones's money and never played for the Evil Empire.

Speaking of Jones and the evil empire, I know a team who's in dire need of a right corner...
I wonder who JR's agent is?

Good point - hadn't thought of that! (Still on only my second cup of coffee.) Someone get Tuna on the horn and tell him to sign Jonas. Not that I want to see a proud Pony playing for the Evil Empire, but it would be nice to have him in the NFL, and on TV every week.
