Anyone remember?

Postby Nacho » Sun Sep 05, 2004 6:04 pm

When was the last time we had an altercation with another team after the game? I have been going to SMU games for a pretty long time and I can't remember one, in any sport. Anyone remember one? We usually have the handshake ritual and then often there is a group prayer with members of the other team. I'm sure that is what would have happened after this game if not for Leach and his wild and crazy antics. What a fun guy.

The closest I remember is a game (late '80s? early 90s?) that featured a fight that ended a game prematurely. The men's soccer team was playing Alabama A&M, and although AA&M was big and fast, they were .... terrible. So the Ponies were basically making them look ridiculous, and the cheap shots started. We've always had a small team, and this was no exception (the "muscle" on our roster back then was MF Bryan Thompson, but he didn't really fit that role, to say the least.) Anyway, there was a bunch of pushing and shoving after a hard foul, and then their coach went nuts. First he screamed at the refs, then at players, then at Coach Hyndman. (Fortunately, someone let him know what an amazingly bad decision it would be to go after Coach Hyndman....) Anyway, he got so irate that he yanked his team off the field and abandoned the game, 2-0, I think.

Coach Gregg & John Jenkins maybe?

Postby Insane_Pony_Posse » Mon Sep 06, 2004 7:52 am

Was there any incident between SMU Coach Forrest Gregg & Houston Cougar Coach John Jenkins after Jenkins ran the score up so bad on SMU right when we came back from the death penalty?

Oct. 22, 1989 -- In an offensive expolsion, UH routs SMU, 95-21. The Cougars gain 1,021 yards total offense on the freshman Mustang team.
