JEREMY JOHNSON: Turning of the Worm

Postby PonyPride » Mon Apr 18, 2011 1:54 am

Jeremy Johnson was one of the more heralded recruits to sign with SMU in 2010, having been named his district's MVP and to some all-state teams as a senior in high school. But while adjusting from high school to college and from quarterback to receiver, Johnson found himself behind a logjam of Mustang receivers. Johnson visited with PonyFans.com to discuss how he handled his frustration last season, how he has worked to prepare for the upcoming season and how much readier he feels as the 2011 season approaches.

Enjoy!

Thanks again for your great insight PonyPride. What a waste to not redshirt a great player such as Jeremy. Hopefully they start rotating in more players to keep the guys fresh. How many times have we seen a receiver limping around half speed with an injury during a game and a backup receiver not inserted? I can only think of one guy. How many times has the offense faltered late in the game and squandered leads? Could it be the receivers are flat worn out? What other team in the nation basically plays the starters the entire game unless using a tight end set? Emmanual Sanders is the only one I've seen who could handle the rigors of an entire game and was just as good if not beter late in the game. Maybe it is a question of the talent level but you would think in the third year of the "run and shoot" we would be stocked at QB, rb and especially reciver but it seems our strong point is offensive line.

That offensive line will make a huge impact this season IMO.

You are right on point. The offensive line is the key.

Sounds like Jeremy is a lot more patient than many of us would be. Perfect example of a "team first" attitude.
Good luck this season!

If I had to rate the 3 best High School players I have personally watched it would be Matthew Stafford, Rex Burkhead and Jeremy Johnson.(OK..Marcus Stiggers from LH too) This guy was a man child against some stiff 5A competition. I really hope we get him on the field quick.
