To follow up on Stallion's post, those unprecedented numbers of schools from the SWC on probation led in part to the departure of UT and others. Had we and other SWC teams adopted the SEC credo of don't rat out your fellow teams, instead of pointing the finger at everyone else, we might have had our lumps and the conference might have stayed together (although the Jackie Sherrill era at A&M was pretty corrupt). I also think though that the rat mentality was conference wide. Every team was calling the NCAA to report violations by their peers as a method of improving their lot in life. We certainly were knee deep in that, but don't tell me that other schools weren't as well. The SEC has flourished while mastering the art of situational ethics.
