Texas May Pass Strict Agent "Runner" Law

likely to pass both Houses of Texas Legislature-I dunno if Govenor Good Hair will want to sign this after consulting with his Aggie buddies. Note which school is prominently supporting this proposed law. Historically, few of these laws across the Country have ever been enforced. My personal belief is that is because it might uncover some pretty ugly stuff on the "hometeam" and its "superstars" if they ever took an agent down.

the pressure is being directly applied by the University of Texas athletic department. The Aggies on the other hand, while not yet knee deep with the street agent scourge, have at least waded into the waters with kids who were associated with street agents. Its in the best interests of all Texas schools because often these out of state school won't have the Texas contacts to identify the top kids early and get their attention.

My guess is that UT is pushing for the law because the school looks good by pushing for it, and knows it is a law that likely can not be enforced. So, not that UT athletes would deem it worthwhile to talk to an agent (oh, the horror!), but the Cows can keep doing whatever they're doing now, knowing that law or no law, the landscape of athlete interaction with agents in Texas remains very unlikely to change.
