Re: Let's put this in perspective, "Hang Tough" (long post)I started this morning with a meeting that didn't go terribly well and it put me in a rather annoyed state for the majority of the morning.. After reading this post, I realized that my annoyance was childish. I was in the 90% of the time to react to life happening around me. It was time to refer to Rule #1.
I never had the opportunity to meet Greg or Coach Fello and after reading Greg's post, I am the poorer man for it. My deepest sympathies to his family and friends that got to share his life and strength. Some rise by sin, and some by virtue fall
Re: Let's put this in perspective, "Hang Tough" (long post)![]() Gregory Shawn Bruce Gregory Shawn Bruce was 43 when he passed peacefully from this earth late Sunday night, May 22, 2011. Greg was born on St. Patrick's Day, March 17, 1968 in San Francisco, California. After growing up in Los Angeles and attending Harvard High School, he moved to Dallas and earned his bachelor's and master's degrees from Southern Methodist University. His battle with brain cancer was heroic and hard fought, and through it all he kept his optimism, wit, and cheerful spirit. To his credit, many people who crossed his path never knew he was fighting for his life. He was a Founding Father of the Texas Delta chapter of Phi Kappa Psi at SMU, and he remained active in supporting both his fraternity and university. Greg was a driving force each year for the MT and founded the Men's Dinner of the Coterie. His verve and enthusiasm for SMU athletics, especially football, became legendary. He was an active supporter of The Mustang Club and a former member of the board of directors. He was known colloquially as the Mayor of the Boulevard for his constant presence along Bishop Boulevard once football returned to SMU's campus. His cheerleading and flag-waving in the stands of Ford Stadium will be missed. Above all, he was a devoted husband and father who spent boundless energy sharing his love with his wife and daughter. Greg is survived by his wife Megan Aebi Bruce and his daughter, Abby Katherine Bruce; his parents Genie and Otto Ledford, Heida and Don Bruce; and his sister Kim Bruce; and his in-laws, Carolyn and Fred Aebi, and Misty and Donald Jones. A service celebrating Greg's life will be held at 2:00 on Thursday, May 26 at the sanctuary of Highland Park United Methodist Church, 3300 Mockingbird Lane. In lieu of flowers, Greg and Megan have asked that donations be made in his name to continue research on finding a cure for brain cancer to Baylor Neuro-Oncology Foundation, in care of Karen Fink, M.D., Ph.D., 3600 Gaston Avenue, Suite 100, Dallas, TX 75246. http://www.legacy.com/obituaries/dallasmorningnews/obituary.aspx?n=gregory-shawn-bruce&pid=151285570&fhid=11533 "THE SMU BLVD - - NO PLACE ELSE" (retired)
Re: Let's put this in perspective, "Hang Tough" (long post)I too had been battling some stupid crap this day. A spillover from yesterday. How small it really is. My hearts out to Greg's family. Proud of those who are dedicated, core fans of SMU. Hope that it won't offend, but I am gonna borrow some of the words. One of my aunts is fighting cancer right now. Thanks for putting back up this post.
