Re: GREG BRUCE![]() Gregory Shawn Bruce Gregory Shawn Bruce was 43 when he passed peacefully from this earth late Sunday night, May 22, 2011. Greg was born on St. Patrick's Day, March 17, 1968 in San Francisco, California. After growing up in Los Angeles and attending Harvard High School, he moved to Dallas and earned his bachelor's and master's degrees from Southern Methodist University. His battle with brain cancer was heroic and hard fought, and through it all he kept his optimism, wit, and cheerful spirit. To his credit, many people who crossed his path never knew he was fighting for his life. He was a Founding Father of the Texas Delta chapter of Phi Kappa Psi at SMU, and he remained active in supporting both his fraternity and university. Greg was a driving force each year for the MT and founded the Men's Dinner of the Coterie. His verve and enthusiasm for SMU athletics, especially football, became legendary. He was an active supporter of The Mustang Club and a former member of the board of directors. He was known colloquially as the Mayor of the Boulevard for his constant presence along Bishop Boulevard once football returned to SMU's campus. His cheerleading and flag-waving in the stands of Ford Stadium will be missed. Above all, he was a devoted husband and father who spent boundless energy sharing his love with his wife and daughter. Greg is survived by his wife Megan Aebi Bruce and his daughter, Abby Katherine Bruce; his parents Genie and Otto Ledford, Heida and Don Bruce; and his sister Kim Bruce; and his in-laws, Carolyn and Fred Aebi, and Misty and Donald Jones. A service celebrating Greg's life will be held at 2:00 on Thursday, May 26 at the sanctuary of Highland Park United Methodist Church, 3300 Mockingbird Lane. In lieu of flowers, Greg and Megan have asked that donations be made in his name to continue research on finding a cure for brain cancer to Baylor Neuro-Oncology Foundation, in care of Karen Fink, M.D., Ph.D., 3600 Gaston Avenue, Suite 100, Dallas, TX 75246. http://www.legacy.com/obituaries/dallasmorningnews/obituary.aspx?n=gregory-shawn-bruce&pid=151285570&fhid=11533 "THE SMU BLVD - - NO PLACE ELSE" (retired)

Re: GREG BRUCEOh, I am so so sad to just now read this about Greg. I would have definitely attended his service to pay tribute to such a great man- but just got the news.
This is a GREAT Mustang fan. He is such an icon on the Boulevard and in the Stadium with his flag - standing and cheering. He's the first person I wanted to see after a victory. He would be even happier than me! My heart breaks at this news about my friend. Lets honor Greg by becoming stronger Mustang Fans. Greg, you and your Mustang spirit will live on!!! Positive thoughts to Megan, Abby, family and loyal friends.
Re: GREG BRUCE
Beautifully put, mustang addict. After reading all of this, I wish I had gotten a chance to know Greg. You're right about the way to honor Greg's memory: each and every one of us has to become a better PonyFan. Go to more (all!) games. Get there earlier. Stay later. Cheer more loudly. Wear more red and blue around town. Put another SMU sticker on the back of your car. Be a more vocal, visible PonyFan, and be proud of it! Let the players know, let the coaches know and let those around you know you're an SMU fan. R.I.P. Greg
Re: GREG BRUCEOh, wow... this is very sad news... very sad.
(I am late in getting this as... well, as has been noted... I don't drop by the site as often as I used too.) I love Greg. He will be missed. ... I would always call him Greg "The" Bruce when I saw him on game days at his tent.... "UNITE THE CLANS! UNITE US!!!!" One of my favorite memories was at that tent... after a game drinking Neumman's (sp.?) and literally pulling the shirt off my back to give it to the gent who the drink was named after. He was visiting from Germany and was lamenting that he didn't have time to buy a jersey. I gave him mine. True to form and in keeping with European Football etiquette he sent me a German National Team (Ballack) jersey in return. (It's custom amongst players and fans to trade jerseys after soccer matches... I really didn't care whether I got anything back in return, but I didn't want a man in from Deutschland to go home empty-handed.) That was just one of many nights I remember on the 'Vard at that tent which felt vacant there at the end of the season this past year and Greg was in the hospital. Greg always was one of the first people I looked for as soon as I set foot on campus on gamedays. And of course, who can forget his classic avatar: ![]() PonySoprano He will be missed. ![]() Eric Dickerson in Pony Excess "I've love winning man, it's like better than losing." - Ebby Calvin "Nuke" LaLoosh
