At the very least, its the first game. We've all seen a lot of teams get ambushed on that opening weekend. I can only hope that the mustangs are getting things in gear during the summer while A&M is buying into their own hype. Given the timing of Thad's film, it would be awesome to gig'em punch them in the mouth.

I witnessed the 1980 game against #2 Texas so I know what can happen, but with the greater distance now between the haves and have nots, I believe beating A&M would be a bigger upset than the 1980 game. I want to see us keep it close and hope to pull it out late. No moral victory desired but my hopes for a win are merely hopes and not expectations.

SMU wasn't a have-not by 1980. SMU had as many future All-Americans, NFL Draft Choices and future All-Pros as just about anyone in the Country-it was just young talent. I don't see much comparison.

I think you are making my point. What I was trying to say was that even though 1980 was a first time freshman QB against the # 2 team and this year we have experience against # 11 I think this year will be much, much more difficult to find a way to win.
