Don't Blame Me......... I told you not to mess with the uniforms!!!!!!!!
By the way, for those that thought that taking the names off the backs of the uniforms was a good thing I can tell you from seeing two games that it is not. If you are just listening to a game it makes no difference. If you are there, it does.
It looks high school ish (small high schools, the larger ones have virtually all gone to names), low budget, plain, and it makes following the players much more difficult. At the opener, I had a program so I kept making reference to it to see who (excluding numbers and names I had memorized) was in on the play. It was a pain in the xxx, and detracted from the game. At the TCU game I did not have a program, and when we started making multiple forced changes to defensive personnel myself and the others attending the game had no idea of who was in the game. TCU fans sitting around us asked us who certain players were and we could tell them some but not all. One of them asked "what's up with the names gone?". I realize it's the least of the problems for a team on a 14 game losing streak, and coming off what I believe to be the most embarassing performance by the team since Navy last year, but it is just one more stupid mistake.
Number 14, whoever he is, was in the game on kickoff coverage right after the play where Number 14, Adami, was booted from the game. Whould make sense to have names if you have overlapping numbers PLAYING IN THE SAME GAME!
Re:
I guess the obvious anwer to that is that you could tell one #14 from another.
Adding to the confusion was the incomplete/inaccurate SMU roster in the TCU program and having the players listed only alphabetically and not numerically. So, if you wanted to know who #8 was, the only way you could look him up in the program (if he was even there in the first place) was to scan the entire roster of last names to match it up to a number!
Before the game a sweet little girl in a miniskirt and spiked heels asked me to buy a program from her, and I didnt have the heart to say no. So, for 3 bucks I was able to figure out that the #14 still in the game after Adami's ejection was probably Duke Hasson. I wont swear to it, but probably.
Seriously, if the team is going to use this many duplicate numbers they need to have the names on the jerseys. Against Tech I saw 4-5 sets of duplicates on the sidelines, including some pairs where both guys play frequently. In the second half against Tech Chris Foster caught a pass, but the PA announcer couldnt figure out who it was, so eventually he gave the credit to Rolando Humphrey. This is getting kind of silly.
If it will help any, when there are two players with the same number, one will be an offensive player and the other a defensive player. So if the defense is on the field, then #14 is Allan Adami...there should be no mistaking that...not to mention, he is considerably LARGER than the other #14. On the other hand, if you are just trying to check out the guys on the bench...I hope you are a female.

Re:
Okay, I laughed at that. Maybe when somebody suggested this was the result of a team vote they were right...
