Sturdivant named to U.S. National Team

Former SMU safety Joe Sturdivant is among 39 players selected to play for the 2011 U.S. Menâ€™s National Team in football in the fourth International Federation of American Football (IFAF) Senior World ChampionshipJuly 8-16 in Austria.

Sturdivant is playing strong safety and part-time running back for the Catania Elephants in Cicily, Italy ... and is the team's defensive coordinator and interim head coach.

The Elephants will play in the Italian Football League semifinals June 26. The championship game is July 9 in Parma, Italy.

Joe's father has passed away years back, but I beleive he played football at SMU. not sure if he was a coach

There was a rumor that he was going to Baylor to join back up with Bennet and Gush as a GA, but I believe that is still a rumor at this point.
