Now Nebraska on probation as well (self-imposed): http://sports.espn.go.com/espn/page2/st ... ortCat=ncfBack to UNC though, it will be interesting to see how this shakes out. They have been cooperating instead of trying to cover it up like USC, Ohio St, and Oregon. These days it seems like the NCAA has taken less kindly to the lying than to the cheating, but no one has ever accused the NCAA of being consistent.

Ha, very true. If anyone thinks UNC isn't a cash cow, they have never stepped foot outside of Texas. UNC is to college basketball what Alabama is to football. Here are the top 5 merchandise sales in 2010 by school: 1. Texas, 2. Alabama, 3. Florida, 4. LSU, 5. North Carolina UNC will get a slap on the wrist because they are "in the club". These days, the only penalty seems to be on the coach, and in this case, they can't pin anything on ole' Butch davis. Tressel and Chip Kelly weren't so lucky.
No one argued UNC basketball isn't a cash cow. My argument is that their football program isn't nearly the cash cow that OSU and Oregon football is. Further, sanctions to the UNC football program that do not reach the UNC basketball program will not affect the cash cow in Chapel Hill which is basketball.

Completely agree CalallenStang. On another note, i am constantly amazed at the amount of ECU gear I see all over the state, and especially at the beach. Huge billboards as well. they have great marketing to go along with that enormous student body.

Just talked to a former UNC footballer. He lives in the Charolette area. Says the Trustees are fit to be tied. Seems UNC has a reputation and tradition of being honorable and clean. That said, he has no clue why the coach is still there.
Then came the paranoia part about this being a Dukie attempt to bring down UNC basketball. All in all, it sounded a bit like another program I followed very closely back in the late 80s.
And he doesn't think the DP is even on the table. Feels a few scholarships and limiting visits will be the most they get.
Not defending his opinion, just passing it along.
