If your school just gets a slap on the wrist when your head coach knows what is going on, then how are you supposed to enforce any rules at all? I also like how the NCAA waited until after 5:00 on a Friday to break this news... Someone knows something about news cycles...

Report: NFL might not hold supplemental draft

The NFL supplemental draft might be a casualty of the lockout, according to an ESPN report.

The supplemental draft is normally held 10 days prior to training camp, but with rumors swirling that camps will open later this week the league might run out of time to hold the draft.

Two players who reportedly were interested in entering the supplemental draft were Ohio State QB Terrelle Pryor and Georgia RB Caleb King.

In an email to ESPN, NFL spokesman Greg Aiello said that there might not be any players who qualify for the draft.

"If there are no players eligible for a supplemental draft, there is no supplemental draft," Aiello said in the email. "It is for players whose circumstances have changed in an unforeseen way after the regular (college) draft. It is not a mechanism for simply bypassing the regular (draft)."


Since the inception of the supplemental draft in 1977, 40 players have been selected.

You know the story of the reformed hooker who believes that current hookers should be dealt with harshly. Sort of a parable about us. We were hit with a death penalty that we deserved and can't understand why the current batch of miscreants are not treated as harshly as us. Life isn't fair. OSU will not be punished if the NCAA can do gymnastics necessary to avoid it. And this can set the precedent to allow wrist slaps of Auburn and Oregon, as well. Nothing to see here folks, keep on walking. I feel sorry for the next non-BCS program to get a recruiting violation.

I don't know that anyone heard the entire report this morning, but I believe ESPN2 had a quick blurb on Ohio State...something about the NCAA reporting the transgressions to the university a full month earlier that the university stated in their announcement to the press last year...I guess that is how the players remained eligible to play in the bowl! Sarcasim aside, did anyone hear the entire report?
