And now for something completely different...

Postby mrydel » Fri Aug 12, 2011 5:39 pm

Listening to the Arkyland sports show. First, to update some stuff, SEC heads are meeting tomorrow to discuss A&M and A&M has moved their Regents meeting from the 22nd to the 15th. There is an agenda item that takes up discussion for joining the SEC and giving the President of A&M full authority to act on the move if it seems fit.

But here is what I thought was interesting. Now that Arkansas and A&M will be conference mates and with the layout of the divisions, if they continue to play their annual game in Dallas, it will only give the "home" team in the Dallas game 3 more home games for that year. In Arkansas that would be very tough since they already play one or 2 games a year in Little Rock. They could only have 2 game in Fayetteville in certain years. I would hope with everything else we should be doing that we could schedule a Jerry World game with Arkansas. It would be an away game for them and give us some SEC exposure. They would certainly look at us as a cupcake which is what they need with a hard SEC schedule.

First, if A$M went to the SEC, there would be time to change contracts with Jerry's World. One would assume such with ifs are accounted for in the contract (I have no illusions that A$M would consider what ifs, but Broyles is sharp). Second, SMU has no business scheduling An Arkyland as it only benefits Arkyland. We don't recruit Arkyland, they do recruit Texas. And last, There isn't enough feed and seed stores in Texas or Arkyland to supply all the overalls attire needed for an A$M vs. Beloved Razorbacks game.

I want to play Arkansas. I always enjoyed beating them. Arkansas will always recruit Dallas whether they play there or not. And the word is they will schedule someone else non conference to play in Dallas, someone they think they can beat. I would rather it be us than some other out of area school that would also benefit from recruiting Dallas.

Disagreeing with you on this makes me think we may have to meet again at Whole Hog and discuss this in depth.

I wonder how many arky fans will make the mistake of thinking their new conference mate is a short drive, what with the road sign pointing to "college station" that's across from little rock national near the holiday inn

Good point. I might rent a bus and sell tickets to College Station for game day. It would take up about 30 minutes of a Saturday morning and I could make a bundle.

We definitely need to continue this debate at the usual place and usual time. This is serious like the great taste great, less filling debates. Plus I have been eating salad crap for lunch lately and would love a real meal.
