Link: http://www.dallasnews.com/opinion/sunda ... reregister Selected quotrs from another Dallas Morning News article: Texas A&M's dash to the SEC could come this week “The Big 12 Conference members have been and will continue to conduct meetings related to the situation with Texas A&M and conference membership,†Beebe said. “There will be public statements as appropriate and necessary if and when action is taken.†Expect the Big 12 to act aggressively on replacement options, especially with the potential loss of its third member in 14 months. “I hope the Aggies don’t leave,†Hance said. “If they do, it’s not the end of the world, at least for us. They’ll be replaced by at least one and maybe three excellent teams that … if we get what we’re asking for, it would be a bigger story than the Aggies leaving.†Notre Dame, long a football independent, would fit Hance’s description. It’s expected that the Big 12 would allow the Irish to keep their current NBC agreement as a “school network†and would offer a full share in the conference. While the Irish represent an extreme long shot, the ability to maintain a network would be a key part of the sales pitch. The same applies for Brigham Young University, which is in its first year as a football independent. If the Big 12 could lure Notre Dame, an appeal for Arkansas to leave the SEC could gain traction. The Razorbacks had traditional Southwest Conference rivalries with Texas, Texas Tech and Baylor. Pittsburgh, which has strong Big 12 and Texas connections in its administration and coaching staff, also could be involved if Notre Dame were to join. SMU has expressed strong interest in membership. Regardless of the teams, expect a quick Big 12 response to send a message about the conference’s future viability. ◼ ------------------------------ Guess SMU didn't have any rivalries while in the SWC?
