Per this guys sources ...no CUSA team in the mix at this time.

http://www.tulsaworld.com/blogs/sportspost.aspx?How_quickly_will_Big_12_react_if_(when)_AM_bolts/13-12353

Makes sense...any of the CUSA teams will say how high do I have to jump....spend early time dreaming/trying to get ND, etc. If / when that fails.....

You can take BYU off the list of realistic additions to the Bevo 9. Here is my list:

SMU
Air Force
Houston
TCU
Colorado State
Back off Warchild seriously.

Why is BYU unrealistic? They make sense in a lot of ways...I've considered them the most likely addition for a couple of years now (and even more so since TCU left for the Big East....which was also "unlikely").

SMU is one school that is wasting its time campaigning for Big 12 membership. Several league sources confirmed that no Conference USA team is in the mix at this point, which would also eliminate wide speculation that Houston is a strong candidate to fill A&M’s spot.

Oh well since he said we are wasting our time I guess we should just shut up and be resigned to stay where we are.

BS. Yes its a longshot that we get into the Big 12. But to say that we are wasting our time is asinine. At least SMU is doing something. If BYU says no to the Big 12 all bets are off. At that point its anyone's guess where the Big 12 would turn.

I agree that it's smart for us to be getting out there...chances are we don't end up in the Big 12, but we need to get ourselves on the radar.

I've had two interesting conversations. First with a ut alum from austin. He hears SMU has a chance, and there are actually some folk who want to see some of the old SWC in big 12 fold. It may be slim, but... The other part of the conversation is that ut is in discussion with pac 10/12 again.
Second is with nd alum. As far as he has heard, nd has no desire to affiliate with big 12.

i don't kow what may come, but time for all of SMU and Dallas to Pony Up.

Someone on one of the other forums mentioned a 'buy-in' cost to join b12-2. Depending on that price it may have a big effect on who is interested or not. I would think cougar high would have a hard time coming up with a 10--15 mil buy-in since they are struggling to get funding for their upgraded stadium. Also, would AFA be allowed to spend taxpayer money that way? Just some thoughts.

I don't know if this has been posted but thought it was an interesting evaluation from ESPN Big 12 -2 ( uh 3?) Blogger David Ubben...

SMU: Proximity is not your friend, Ponies. I promise. SMU is just now crawling out of the smoldering crater from the death penalty imposed on the program by the NCAA in 1987. Ironically, Big 12 commissioner Dan Beebe was one of the investigators for the NCAA on that very case. But here are the facts. The basketball program is middling at best. The football program's ability to compete on a weekly basis is debatable at best. But the worst number? An enrollment of 11,000, that, as we discussed above, is going to end this conversation before it starts.

Chance SMU joins: 7 percent

While enrollment is only 11,000, a more interesting number is $1.07 billion. That is SMU's endowment. Compare to houston @ $553 million and byu @ $608 million. This might help grease the wheels.

One never knows. Once there was no way we could attract a coach like June Jones. If the Big XII-II-I doesn't work out now for us, perhaps another opportunity will present itself. Bottom line, win and get a nation TV following and the path to improved conference alignment is much easier. I don’t see Orsini not doing all he can to produce the best result. And JJ sure hasn't sat on the sidelines during conference alignment. Even Turner seems more engaged at producing a better product.
