It's been posted in another thread but I sure hope calls have been made to the SEC. We very easily solve their "problem" of a 14th team without making political waves, they get to expand into Texas even more for recruiting and get more of a foothold into the TV market. We can always dream.

There was a yahoo sports article today promoting TCU to the SEC for the exact same reasons, why not us?

We definitely should be the SEC's next choice to give them a private school in the West to balance out Vanderbilt in the East.

It makes so much sense I'm sure it will never happen.

Last time I remember playing an SEC team was the OT loss to Ole Miss in the Cotton Bowl in 1998. Are we going to routinely beat LSU, Alabama and Florida? Doubtful. But I know we'd compete very well.

Of all the possible schools listed as a potential SEC member I don't think SMU has been a part of any of them.

SMU to the SEC would be great. The Greek system and the Blvd. are extremely SEC-like. I was a student Alabama when SMU played Bama in the Sun Bowl. That was a cold game, a very cold game. If Miss State can compete in the SEC so can SMU!

A&M will not want to be dragging SMU with them to the SEC and the SEC doesn't want more dead weight in SMU. They will be able to find a much better fit than us.

It's kind of odd to me to keep reading reports about how SMU is so far down the line of viable A&M replacements all while SMU has gone balls out in a media blitz with apparently more of a marketing push coming soon. Do we really stand no chance at all that Memphis is even ahead of us? If so why the administrative push for a move now? Is it all a smokescreen? You've got to wonder what the hell is going on here because the facts at the moment are not adding up.

right. we clearly don't throw money around frivolously when it comes to marketing football, yet here we are w/ a new marketing co. and some other 3rd parties that have been hired on our behalf to promote SMU to an AQ Conf. whatever is going on, its more than we have been doing, and appears to be more than anyone else is doing in terms of self promotion in regards to conference realignment.

There's no reason to take Memphis. As much as any other, Bevo 12 is a football-driven league, and Memphis football sucks.

That Ole Miss game SUCKED! Weren't we up by like 2 or 3 touchdowns into the 3rd quarter before they came back to tie, and then win? It was one of the first SMU games I ever went to, and it kinda set the stage for me as an SMU fan for the better part of the next decade. We got kicked in the nards so many times over that time period, and I finally feel like my boys are finally healing.

I was at that game.

We are 0-3 and up by three touchdowns in the fourth quarter at the Cotton Bowl. My friends and I figure we can leave and beat traffic. We get to the car just in time to hear Ole Miss score to tie it up.

My God.

I felt sorry for everybody in that game, that would have helped what turned out to be, I believe, a 5-7 season.

As far as TCU goes, I doubt they are going to back out of going to the Big Least at this point, so that eliminates them in my mind as part of any the Big 12/SEC equation. I have nothing to base that on, by the way. Wouldn't they also have to now pay the Big East an exit fee?

Even if there is absolutely no way that UT wants us in the Big 12, I wonder if all this talk and pub we are getting sets up and the Big 12 to look like idiots if they go get that football powerhouse Memphis?

Memphis is much worse than Rice in football. UT must be planning to go independent in football pretty quick.
