Since you mentioned Texas/Rice and Notre Dame/Navy...

SMU v UNT win % - 86.4%

Texas v Rice - 76.6%

Notre Dame v Navy - 85.1%

... so if we started playing on Thanksgiving, would this be officially the most lop-sided 'rivalry' ever???

Its like the girl you never want and is always chasing you is trying to convince you your going to die alone but at least she still wants you so you mights as well slum it and settle. Look, if all things go to plan the TCU-SMU rivalry will only grow in intensity and fan participation. With SMU hopefully in the B12 this mean this game turns into a inter BCS conference match-up. Now that SMU finally is showing sign of paying for marketing, we could finally turn this game into what it really is Dallas vs FW with two competitive and relevant teams tied to their communities.

Also even if the SMU-TCU series ended, why on earth would we take UNT. Maybe if we wanted a soft opener like Texas playing Rice, but there is no recruiting incentive like Texas being able to play in Houston. I have never met an Alumni that was ever happy that we beat UNT, mad we wasted are time playing them, but definitely not happy. We might as well schedule UTSA, at least they are on a semi-legitimate rise academically and more than 20mins away. But I'm sure more experienced alumni could list plenty of schools that would come before UNT, if TCU was dumb enough to end the series.

Purely as a college football fan and an SMU alum, I've always believed it would be healthy/amusing/interesting to play TCU, Baylor (for sure), and UNT (to a lesser extent) on a very consistent basis because they do make for interesting rivalries that are easy to travel to for all teams involved and their respective fan base. Pretend for a second that the UNT football program finds itself in a similar position as ours in 2 to 5 years (up and coming after years of very poor play and not being relevant). That would make the games a little more interesting, but the institutions themselves will never be considered like minded or on equal footing.

I have worked part time for the last 6 years (1 night class during the fall semester) as an adjunct professor at UNT, and as hard as they try to improve their status, the whole place (excepting maybe the college of music) still has a very strong 4 year junior college commuter school feel to it.

I guess when you move from 1 to 3 you are technically improving. And I hope you guys get up to the top of the Sun Belt (mostly because we have to start playing you soon).

But don't try to compare the UNT education.

Rice, Texas, SMU, A&M, Baylor, UTD, TCU, Texas Tech, Southwestern U, Austin College, Trinity College, St. Edward's U.

Then somewhere down there with Texas State, UT-Arlington, UT-El Paso, and U of Houston is where UNT is at.

Reality check.

I actually kind of like the idea of scheduling UTSA. They are making a major move, and getting exposure in a largely ignored, but ever expanding market like San Antonio would not be a bad thing either (plus, where would you rather visit, the Riverwalk, or Denton?). Sorry UNT, you just don't have what you think you do. Time to run along now.

Add to that, the TCU/SMU rivalry will remain strong no matter which conference either team is in because there is a passionate competition between the two schools. The whole AQ vs. non-AQ is not likely to change that. It is still a helluva game that both teams show up for in full-force. It's a visceral reaction between the two schools; you can't fake it and you can't force it. Don't think SMU/UNT will ever generate that, even if UNT becomes a legit team.

Look into your heart, what is more likely after this round of realignment.... SMU in the Big 12 with UT, OU and Tech, or UNT with SMU in CUSA West? You know it is true.

I don't think any Texas school in CUSA would vote to let you in. Maybe you should start kissing up to future WAC members UTSA and Texas State for membership. Oh wait you turned down WAC down due to travel expenses. How are you going to financially support competing in CUSA. Hint: look at your endowment vs CUSA, now look at future state budget cuts, then look at the education your students could get from DCCC. Maybe the UT and A&M systems can split up your assets like the FDIC taking over a failed bank.

from an attendance standpoint, not a bad idea to play them at Ford. Just sayin...would draw more than ECU, Marshall, USM or UCF or NW St. But other than that, no real upside to playing ntsu.

UTSA would also be a good option. Probably more civilized than the denton crowd.

does this guy have any idea that there's a school in Ft. Worth that we play for some marbles?

no marbles in Denton worth playing for

The game isn't played during rivalry week. Guys, you just have to accept that TCU has kinda moved on. They are about to return to big boy land in an AQ conference. Show me one storied rivalry between an AQ and non-AQ school. Sure, there are plenty of series that continue between AQ and non-AQ teams, but no one confuses Rice/Texas or ND/Navy as epic rivalries.

Right or wrong, TCU fans and alums are going to view your game in a lesser stature over time. The game has already lost luster by being moved to September. Not rubbing your noses in it, just fact.

Over time, you will want a rival who still values a game with you. You won't have to look far.

Tech cancelled its game against TCU. UT and A&M won't schedule us. Baylor's azzz hurts. SMU is the only home & home series that we have going forward that most of our fans can travel to home & home. Sorry Mean Green, as much as you would like to see SMU relegated, don't cite the TCU / SMU rivalry.
