Sorry to double post.. One other thing... While college is about training minds, the experience of college is more than simply about education. Athletics and other activities (e.g., plays, internships, ...) also contribute to developing our young minds. Kids do select colleges based upon the experience, which is why spirit and football are so important. Go Ponys. :D

thank you, but no thanks. I'm close enough that I know what his job entails... Believe it or not, there is a significant amount of the faculty who have similar opinions. And support athletics, and other student activities..

That's true. It seems like professors either support the school well, or have disdain for everything the school's about. FWIW, it seems like many of those in the former category teach at Cox or in the Engineering School.

thanks. yes, i am in cox. our dean throws a great tailgate for every game (and he shows up for the tail gates). so, the support is from the top down.

Oh yes, I know of Dean Niemi's tailgates (I am a recent BBA grad). They are a lot of fun. Great turnout of students and professors on most weeks, as well.
