Rating Torlan Pittman

Postby Junior » Thu Sep 15, 2011 9:20 am

I'm by no means a defensive line expert, but it seems that Pittman has been playing well. I recall his name being called a few times the last game. I know our NT isn't on the field to make tackles, just to take up space, but it seems he's doing pretty well so far.

Thoughts?

All I know is that he was 20 yards down field in pass coverage on one play. Made the tackle on a completion if I recall correctly.

The one thing I will say though is that in the second half against UTEP, they played with the big three on the line a lot (Hunt at NT this time) and that seemed to force a lot of the pressure.

I think Pittman has been struggling a little with getting back into the physical aspect of the game, but I suspect he will improve significantly as the season moves on.

Problem is that Hunt cannot play the nose...just gets cut....needs to utilize strength and speed on outside

UTEP only called 12 rushing plays from scrimmage so you really didn't need a NG.

Stallion, that might change if you didn't have one.

I suspect he is a little rusty and also a little out of playing shape. That should improve greatly as the season progresses.

Hunt needs to play lower in general. He raises up to quickly instead of staying low and getting leverage. Works on field goal blocks and PAT's because he's good at turning his body sideways and squeezing through gaps, but on D he's gotta stay lower.
