A couple of interesting bits of info. My apologies if any have been posted before.
• June is a man of few words. Even with his team and his coaches who he adores, conversations are pretty short. I was not at practice yesterday, but according to PonyPride, June spent about 20 minutes talking to Gilbert and his father. In June years, that's roughly equivalent to inviting them over for the weekend. So if nothing else, June certainly found them interesting as they held his attention for a long time.
• According to PonyPride, Gilbert was wearing a pretty significant protection/suspension apparatus on his throwing arm (his words were to the effect of "looked like a robot arm"). So my guess is that if he comes to the Hilltop, much of next year will be spent rehabbing his throwing arm.
• The orange people have essentially turned on Gilbert, so even if he were able to pull off a miraculous comeback, there's nothing for him down in Austin. Maybe he got himself into an untenable situation right off the bat by trying to compete with the little brother of a local legend. Gilbert obtained his release from UT yesterday. So although he may not come to the Hilltop, it's fairly evident that he's going somewhere.
• There's a reason why Mack is referred to as Coach February. IMHO, the coaching at UT isn't up to snuff. Best of everything and the top recruiting class nationally year after year, they have 1 national championship in recent history to show for it. Not to demean what it takes to win a national championship, but they should be competing for it almost every year, and they simply don't. June on the other hand has an NCAA Coach of the Year Award, orchestrated the biggest turn-around in college football history, and has a bonafide track record of getting athletes to play at their full potential. If there's one team on the planet who can give Gilbert what he needs to succeed now and on Sundays, it's coaches Jones and Morrison.
• I don't see any issues between Gilbert and Printz. Even if Gilbert got a second year, Printz would either take his job or he wouldn't. In either case, Printz would play 4 years. So in the end, what difference would it make to Printz?
• Lastly, we're thin at QB, and may be even more so because we haven't taken a QB in next year's recruiting class.
