Div. 1-AA Stadiums

Postby Lamont_Cranston » Wed Nov 10, 2004 12:19 am

For those of you on this board who still believe that SMU is destined for Div. 1-AA status, check out this link on stadiums in that classification.

IMHO...SMU will never drop down to Div. 1-AA. However, if we did, we would have the fifth largest football stadium in that classification in the nation.

I've often said we will have the nicest stadium in 1AA. We can use it to gain a recruiting edge and get the best 1AA players available.

We are not headed for 1-AA unless the entire CUSA west goes that way. As far as 1-AA football is concerned there is a big Atlantic 10 battle (between two 1-AA top 10 teams) this weekend in Harrisonburg, VA where James Madison will be taking on William and Mary. W&M has one conference loss to Delaware, JMU is undefeated. Just wanted to give you a flavor of the types of schools in 1-AA.

Wouldn't it be nice if "The Harvard of the South" could play the real Harvard? I'm not sure that SMU would match up very well.

Harvard (8-0)

Big game this weekend against Penn (7-1)

And if Odessa Permian moved up to IAA they would have the 28th largest stadium in the division.

No offense, Romo & Eckert, but I sure wish Bennett had W&M's quarterback. Good gawd, that Lang Campbell kid can flat-out play. One interception all year. Picked UNC apart all day long in the opener. The JMU game is on TV up here. It'll make a nice early-day alternative to the "Early-Afternoon Big Ten Glut." And JMU's coach is a cheesy redneck, I enjoy watching him. He amuses me to no end.

After that, I fully intend to listen to the Ponies squeak one out over Nevada. This will precipitate the return of MrMustang1965, and all will be well with the world. It's a great weekend for football.
