Boy does that put egg on ND's face. They fire an excellent coach to have a chance a Meyer, and he goes with the sure thing. Florida. They have had six top 10 recruiting classes in a row, so he knows he'll have talent to run with there and that he can look like a savior right off the bat. Skip Holtz already took the ECU job. I wonder who the Irish turn to? Petrino? Davis? Hawkins? That ND jet will be putting in some milage this month.

maybe they can hire Ty back for 50 cents on the dollar?

Reality will now start to sink in over at ND I would guess. Guess they will blame it on their "lofty academic requirements" - hah!!

Not so fast, my friend. The rumors are ahead of the announcement. I am betting this thing is not a done deal.

It may be a classic Internet event, where posts get ahead of the reality.

nice slap in the face! Their ego must be hurt. But this says a lot about what COACHES look for in a program-including coaches interested in SMU. They are looking for an athletic model which gives them the best chance to win-and that ain't Notre Dame any more. Although Urban Meyer was a former Notre Dame assistant, the fact of the matter is that Florida is a MUCH BETTER job. All of you guys complaining that SMU hires relatively inexperienced coaches need your own slap in the face. SMU must fix its own athletic model BEFORE talented COACHES as well as players will flock to SMU.

I still think ND gets a high profile guy that nobody is talking about. I can see Butch Davis thinking about it. Also, don't be shocked if Stoops takes a look at it. I still have a strong suspicion that ND makes a splash with this hire. Could be wrong, but the alums want a big name.

BIGEASY, it's time to leave Pat OBrien's, now!
Step away from the bar...

Stoops to ND???
How many in Stoops OK recruiting classes could get into ND? 25%? 50%?

ND has tough entry requirements, & IMO, that's why Urban moved onto FL...

I am most disappointed that he left the school he turned around. Instead of turning it into a powerhouse he chose to leave. I'm not surprised. Just disappointed. I thought he had more class. But then again who in the USA does these days? I'm also disappointed to see a private school get the shaft if this deal goes through. I think the Florida job is the right move if he must leave Utah, but if I were a Ute I wouldn't play for that ba$tard in the bowl game. Of course that would set the program back even further than losing their novelty coach. I am somewhat disappointed in ND as well. I thought Ty Willingham was a great coach and he didn't get a fair shake. I hope he gets a good job somewhere like Wazzou. Returning to the PAC-10 I think would be good for him.
