Former South Oak Cliff Linebacker Arrested at Mizzou

COLUMBIA, Mo. -– Missouri freshman linebacker Alvin Newhouse was arrested at 1:35 a.m. today, police said, on charges of forcible rape and forcible sodomy.

Officials said Newhouse,19, was arraigned by video at the Boone County Jail on charges related to an attack in his dorm room at Graham Hall on the University of Missouri campus. He was in police custody; bail was set at $60,000. Newhouse was told he could not have any contact with the victim in the case or be on the premises of Graham Hall.

Captain Brian Weimer of the University of Missouri Police Department said the incident occurred at 4:30 a.m. on Sunday in Graham Hall. Weimer also said Newhouse had an outstanding arrest warrant for failing to appear in court on a city summons related to a driving violation.

Reno Savala, Newhouse’s guardian in Dallas, Texas, said Newhouse had sexual intercourse with a woman in the dorms after he and his roommate came back from a party late Saturday night. Savala said Newhouse had told him the intercourse was consensual and that he was innocent of all charges. Savala said the cops took sheets and clothing from Newhouse’s room for evidence.

“If he’s done something he’d admit it to me, and if not, he’ll fight it to the end,” Savala said. “Alvin isn’t a rapist. He doesn’t need to rape anybody. He didn’t do this. The truth will come out.”

The victim in the case is a student at Mizzou who also lives in Graham Hall. Police provided no other ideas about her.

Newhouse was a freshman running back/linebacker from South Oak Cliff High School in Dallas who did not see any action on the field this season.
