Ever heard of Fork Union Military Academy? You will soon...

(also posted on the recruiting forum)

Fork Union Military Academy is in Charlottesville, VA. Two of its most famous alumni are current Dallas Cowboys QB Vinny Testaverde and Dallas Cowboys RB Eddie George. And, of course, both are former Heisman Trophy recipients. (Vinny in 1986, Eddie in 1995) Fork Union is one of only two secondary/prep schools in the nation to have two Heisman Trophy winners among its alumni.

(FYI: The other school is right here in Dallas...Woodrow Wilson High School...Heisman Trophy winners were Davey O'Brien - 1938 and Tim Brown - 1987.)

FUMA is the only school to have dual winners in the past 60 years.

Running back Tyrone Wilson was one of the catalysts in FUMA’s run to the VISFA Division 3 State Championship game. Wilson scored three touchdowns and amassed 173 yards on the ground in the title game. Southern Methodist University in Dallas, Texas, has taken note of Wilson’s ability and has offered the senior a scholarship to continue his education as a Mustang. In January, Wilson will make take an official visit to SMU.

Wilson may be joined by another FUMA cadet at SMU. Fullback/linebacker Curtiss Powell has also caught the Mustangs’ attention and has been offered a scholarship. Powell will also take his recruiting trip in January.

Thanks for the update, MrMustang1965. Glad to see the coaches look outside the State of Texas for talent. Without knowing all their stats, size, speed, etc., I'm also excited to hear we are offering players from 'winning' programs.

Winning, like losing, can become a habit.

FUMA has a very solid post-graduate program. Its a good school affiliated with the Virginia Baptists. Perhaps some of our richer alums are starting to fund their scholarship fund. I think Archie Griffin might also be a FUMA grad. I vaguely remember seeing his picture down there when I took a child (who thought playing hooky was cool) down there for a wake-up visit to a military school. After visiting there he never skipped class again.

Another mention of Fork Union Military Academy.

(U-WIRE) AMHERST, Mass. -- According to three sources within the Massachusetts football program, sophomore wide receiver Brandon London is heavily considering leaving UMass to pursue an opportunity with a Division I team.

A big target at 6-foot-4 and 200 pounds who came on strong for coach Don Brown's team this season, London is said to be considering the transfer "to put himself in the best position to make the [NFL] some day," according to the same sources, two of which were members of UMass' 2003 team.

London played in all 11 games for Don Brown's team this season -- his first as a significant contributor at the college level -- and was second on the team with 34 catches for 439 yards while also posting three touchdowns and averaging 12.9 yards per reception.

A native of Charlottesville, Va., who played one year at Fork Union (Va.) Military Academy, London's high school career included stops at both Albemarle High School in Charlottesville and Framingham High School in Eastern Massachusetts.

London's father, Mike, earned four varsity letters in football at the University of Richmond from 1979-82, and now serves as the defensive line coach and recruiting coordinator at the University of Virginia.
