Coach Bennett

Had lunch today with two high school coaches - good coaches, each of whom has sent players on to major Division I-A programs like Texas, Illinois, etc. They said Coach Bennett's name is the hottest name going among area high school coaches when it comes to recruiting. One of the two coaches was at Coach Bennett's coaching clinic a few weeks ago, and he said he was in awe of what the SMU coaches were presenting, that he would incorporate things he learned and strongly encourage his players to consider SMU (he has at least one player who is in the top 20 or 30 on most state Top 100 lists).

These coaches told me that Coach Bennett's presence has completely changed the view area high school coaches have of SMU, and that there's a buzz going around about SMU's future.

Best lunch I've had in quite a while.

PonyFan, thanks for adding a bright spot to my day....it just reconfirms what I have thouht about Bennett since hearing him talk on several occassions. He is just what this program needs.

The more I read about Coach Bennett, the more I like him. Can't wait to visit Dallas in the fall and see an SMU win (or more, depending on how often I get there). Sounds like he's off to a flying start.

I think this says more about the direction of our program than anything I've seen posted in a long time. This is huge. I only hope we can hold on to Bennett after he shows what he can do to turn this program around. Great post. Thanks for the news PonyFan
