Happy New Year! As fellow travelers on the Road to Recovery for the Pony Nation, it is my sense that 2005 will be a break through year for our Mustangs! We have shared a great deal for the last 15 years and the last three have been a real test of patience and thinking long term.
Since designing and building Ford Stadium and the long term commitment to Phil Bennett and his staff, SMU has placed a very big bet on this strategy in our return to glory. We have a lot to offer recruits, Dallas fans, students and alums.
- New conference focused on traditional and regional schools
- A visible commitment to our program . . . long term
- An opportunity to play, right away, for those who wish to be part of a new FB tradition at a school with a rich FB history.
- Increased flexibility for students and a few JUCOs.
- A young team with several years of experience, earned at a tough price (few wins).
- AND, the PERFECT PLACE for those high school players, who want to perform in Division 1A and DFW, while getting a great degree. Players, who aren't recruited by OU, UT or A$M, who are DETERMINED and DEDICATED to be self-made D-1A student-athletes.
In other words, those young men who will get bigger, smarter and faster in an environment that will support their ambition and reward their own, extra-ordinary efforts to get better and be part of a new winning tradition.
